A History of Two Opposing Forces Seeking Disequilibrium (Memory Palace Series), 2023
handwoven dyed fabric, inkjet print and flashe paint on Japanese kozo paper scrolled on walnut posts
8 ft. x 3 ft. x 1.5 ft.
This sculpture makes use of photographic indexes embedded in the formal tropes of flags, parchment scrolls, and theatrical curtains to make reference to the history of movements and actors caught up in ideological struggle. Newspaper images of extremists movements and dislocated migrants are veiled within the scrolled paper and only partially legible, signalling the hidden histories and the unobservable geopolitical forces at work.
Memory Palaces- a cycle of works of collage, text, and assemblage operating as speculative mnemonic devices for an ahistoric world gripped in a collective amnesia.
